Maui Scuba Dive Recap and Client Review

spotted eagle ray in mauiOn this day there was a south swell rolling through the islands, we decided to leave real early to get a jump start on the conditions and hope for good visibility. We arrived at the beach around 7am, the waves were already there, not your favorite thing to see when going scuba diving but oh well, it was a beautiful morning none-the-less. Once we geared up and walked into the water we could see that it was quite stirred up by the waves. We continued through the murky water then it started to clear up as we got further out. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a large group of spotted eagle rays surprised us! There was 7 of them just cruising by, such beautiful creatures and remind me so much of flying, as they graciously spread their wings and glide through the water.

maui barracuda As we kept on our dive we encountered some curious turtles that were very friendly and very large, I love to see them and I often see the same ones, maybe I should start giving them names? My clients were stoked with what he had seen so far then we came up on a MASSIVE barracuda that was very eager to show off his big teeth, you could see them just lurking out his schnauzer. It was almost as long as me, about 6 feet long! An open ocean barracuda from the pelagic zone that must have been lost coming in so close to shore. What a cool dive! My clients were impressed with the scooter dive, as they could just hold on and see so many fantastic sights. You never know what you’re going to see when you go Maui Scuba diving. Moral of the story: Don’t judge your dive prematurely! Yes yes the swell and visibility, but what do you know, it cleared up and we saw some great stuff and had a great time.

Here is an excerpt of an email I just received from a client I took diving here in Maui:

My friend and I were on Maui for a few days and thought we’d see how difficult it would be to do an Open Water cert. I called Mike and left a message. He called me back within the hour, explained how everything would work, and then we had dives scheduled for the next few days! Diving with Mike was great and he clearly know’s what he’s doing. I was extremely happy with the results. Mike certified both of us over the only 4 days we had and even got us in on a night dive and a scooter dive! Was completely awesome. Thank you Mike! Can’t wait to come back.

I love to scuba dive, teach and pass on my passion for the ocean, if you are considering SCUBA diving on your Maui trip, just give me a call to discuss your questions, my number is 808-250-5494!
